Child Psychology Services model

Our Child Psychology Service Model includes individual child therapy (play therapy, sandtray therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, bibliotherapy, psychoeducation therapy), weekly communication, parent learning, as well as parent coaching, consultation and collaboration.
  • Individual Child Therapy – Children have a set weekly appointment, for example - Tuesdays at 10 am. Children attend weekly sessions until their profile and referring concerns stabilize. Once a child has attained a balanced mental health profile, next they would move to biweekly sessions to ensure stability of their progress and then finish with a few monthly sessions to review coping strategies and assist with problem solving.
  • Weekly Communication – During the child’s therapy session, parents are asked to complete a weekly communication form. This form updates the therapist on successes and challenges experienced in the time since the previous session. Some parents choose to email a weekly update as a means of including both parents.
  • Parenting Articles – Parents are provided the opportunity to read and respond to parenting articles that target their child’s profile during their time in the waiting room. Article content can provide the informational foundation in parent coaching sessions.
  • Parent Coaching – The therapist meets monthly (usually online) with parents to discuss therapeutic progress, goals, environmental strategies and recommendations. It is important to note that Parent Coaching requires caregivers to be open to reviewing and possibly enhancing previous supports as well as learning about and incorporating new strategies.
  • Consultation and Collaboration - The therapist works with the family to enhance the child’s Social/ Emotional/ Behavioural development and mental wellness through problem solving and recommendations. Ultimately, it is the family’s decision which recommendations will be implemented.
Our service is intended to help the child develop their mental wellbeing, and assist parents with understanding and supporting the child’s mental health needs in multiple environments (home, community, school).

Delivery of Service is offered in both In-Person
as well as Telehealth (secure video conferencing) formats.
