Dr. R. Coranne Johnson, R. Psych., is a highly qualified child psychologist with a diverse educational background. She holds a B.Ed. with a diploma in Early Childhood Education and a specialization in Special Education from the University of Lethbridge. Her M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology are from the University of Alberta. With over 30 years of experience working with children, Dr. Johnson has served as a teacher, administrator, and clinical child/school psychologist.
 
Throughout her career, Dr. Johnson has developed a wide breadth of expertise. As a school psychologist, she honed her skills as a reading specialist, individualized program planner, and Response to Intervention consultant. She has expertise in Threat Assessment and has led training sessions on threat assessment protocols for both school staff and community resources. Dr. Johnson has played a pivotal role in leading crisis intervention responses to serious incidents in school systems, aiding both staff and students in the processing of traumatic events. Additionally, her dedication to education is evident as she has taught university courses in special education, educational psychology, and program effectiveness. Her contributions to her field continue to make a profound impact on the lives of countless children.
 
Dr. Johnson, is a dynamic speaker who has shared her expertise with parents and educators on various valuable topics. She has conducted insightful presentations on subjects like managing anxiety in the classroom, modern parenting in the 21st century, and the science of reading instruction. Additionally, Dr. Johnson has showcased her knowledge and insights through her written work. She authored a column titled "Ask a School Psychologist" in Calgary's Child, providing valuable advice and guidance to readers. Furthermore, she took the initiative to introduce a regular feature called "Getting Schooled" in the Psychologists' Association of Alberta quarterly - Psymposium, fostering engagement and awareness within her professional community. As well, Dr. Johnson has also authored articles for the ATA magazine and the LDAA parenting publication. Dr. Johnson's dedication to sharing knowledge and supporting others is evident in her contributions to both professional publications and popular parenting publications.
 
In 2007, Dr. Johnson ventured into private practice and established her own model of Child Psychology Service, specializing in helping children aged 2 to 12 years old. One of her areas of expertise is play therapy, as she recognized its profound effectiveness for children who are experiencing challenges. Through play, children can freely express their thoughts and emotions, resolve problems, address fears and emotional challenges, and practice essential skills for adulthood. Dr. Johnson's wealth of experience has taught her that play therapy plays a vital role in facilitating the healing process for young children who have experienced trauma. This therapeutic approach proves immensely valuable in aiding them to cope with life changes, conquer fear and anxiety, and improve their social skills and behavior. As she joyfully expresses, she considers herself incredibly fortunate to have the most fulfilling job in the world, where she gets to engage in playful activities with children!
