The Green Room:
An Enriching Space for Experience Exploration

Step into the vibrant Green Room, where children at the elementary developmental stage embark on a journey of experience exploration. This spacious and well-lit room offers a diverse array of toys and games that captivate the young minds and nurture their healing and growth.

Here's a glimpse of what the Green Room has to offer:
  • Real-Life Experiences: Children can immerse themselves in a world of realism with toys such as a realistic pretend house, school, puppets, trains, cars, rescue vehicles and dress-up options like firefighters, police officers, and army personnel. These elements encourage role-play and imaginative scenarios, allowing children to express their perceptions and engage in interactive play.
  • Aggressive-Release Play: The Green Room provides a healthy outlet for pent-up energy, fear and/or hostility with toys like pool noodles, toy soldiers and toy guns for Aggressive-Release play.  Children can use these toys to act out scenarios, conflicts, or challenges they have encountered or witnessed, allowing the therapist to observe and gain insights into their inner world. This play modality enables children to express and process intense emotions in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Unleashing Creativity: The Creative-Expression area in the Green Room ignites artistic flair, equipped with drawing and painting materials, and modeling clay. Children can freely express their conscious and unconscious experiences, perceptions, and emotions through art.
  • Learning through Play: A variety of games, such as "Operation" for self-regulation, "Trouble" for turn-taking, and "Marble Maze" for completing tasks, make learning and skill-building enjoyable for the children.
The Green Room features a realistic pretend house (dollhouse) with popcorn ceilings and hardwood floors. This versatile structure serves as a canvas for children to explore and process various life events that may be troubling them. It has been transformed into a hideout, school, or hospital, providing a safe space for children to make sense of their experiences. For children navigating the complexities of living in two homes, the pretend house from the Yellow Room can be brought into the Green Room, offering an opportunity to process change during this time of adjustment. Additionally, the Green Room boasts a police/fire station structure that becomes an intriguing setting for children to delve into stressful or potentially dangerous life events.

The Green Room at Helping Children is carefully designed to support and enrich children's development at the elementary stage. It is a nurturing and imaginative space that promotes exploration, healing, and growth.
